Foreign products/STOP buying

Some things you can't help but to purchase but you/me do not have to help it along by purchasing anything and everything from foreign countrys. Every day more and more jobs are going over seas because of cheaper labor and the only way you/me can fight this is DON'T BUY FOREIGN CRAP.
I just heard that IBM is sending thousands of computer jobs to india....again, that means people over here will be out more jobs.
Watch what you buy and buy USA.

I've been saying the same for a long time... I tried & tried & tried to talk one of my computer consultant friends out of buying a jap-crap car. He wouldn't listen. I told him that if his job goes overseas, don't come crying to me because people like YOU are the ones who buy foreign products. If more prople insisted on domestic products, more jobs would stay in the borders. He didn't listen, and bought his Honda anyway.

A few weeks ago, he was telling me about his job problems, and how his company was letting programmers/consultants go as they shifted to overseas developers. As much as I empathized with his plight, I had to remind him of my prior statement, and asked how his Honda's treating him. He got the point.

It's almost like the average american could care less about what's happening right in front of their faces.
The problem is it may be too late by the time people wake up......then what?

I'm not trying to start a huge flame war, but isn't Honda & Toyota now pretty much made in the US? I thought Toyota was made in Tennessee....

I understand the "buy American" argument, but the way I see it, I'm going to buy what works for me. For instance, people who want a luxury sport sedan don't have too many options with American cars - IMO, American sport-luxury options pale in comparison to the offerings of BMW, Mercedes, and even Acura (the 3.2RL? is pretty cool - very "Mercedes" feeling, and it's got power to spare.)

The companies that I don't particularly agree with would be, for instance, Hyundai - made completely in Korea and then shipped over here. That's where you're really hurting our workers.

If Toyotas are indeed made in Tennessee, then buying a Toyota still puts food on the table for the hard-working Americans that threw it together. Sure beats buying an imported car.

That goes for Cars. Trucks are a different story - if you're buying a truck, then you better buy American or go home - this is not an area to compromise. Buying a Jap truck is like buying an American flag that was made in China. It's borderline sacrilege.

Oh yeah - FORD RULES!

It was a disappointment at the Ford 100th Celebration that the gift shop full of Ford memorabilia to find 99% of it made in China. Buy American, buy Ford..... yeah, right!

I worked as a software consultant prior to joining the Navy, you wouldn't believe the number of Indian consultants I ran into while doing that. I don't know what they put in the water over there, but they turn out developers like rabbits making babies. Good peope though, very polite.

I think the guy at the shoe store thinks I'm nuts--I looked in at least 15 pairs before finding one NOT made in Red China.

Heck, I spent 45 minutes trying to find a KEYBOARD not made in Red China (mine was made in Taiwan).

Amazing factoid: US Army combat boots are made in RED CHINA! Unreal. Fortunately, jump boots are mostly US-made (I saw a few pairs from Canada).

We have been competing with this problem for years where I work. We have made 100% american products since 1894 (not a typo). Within the last twenty years, all sorts of foreign crap has emerged. A product that costs us 95 dollars to BUILD can be bought, packaged, and shipped over for 38 dollars . Within the last six months, we have had to import some stuff to compete (if we dont cut ourselves off at the knees, someone else will). Its a sad day. We even use high end Sony monitors for some of our systems. Yep! Even they are being made in China now. Sony? Jeez. Enough ranting for now, my tag at the bottom of this message should tell you where I stand (if this rant didnt already lead you down that path).

Foreign products/STOP buying

Foreign products being bought in this country make me mad. We need to demonstraight to the importers that we will not buy their products. Its obvious that we can't stop buying all imports, but we can identify some and start a boycott. A place to start: 3/4 & 1 ton trucks. There are 3 US manufactures. that all make a fine product, Ford F250-350 almost all made in the US, Chev 2500-3500 made in the US except for Duramax Diesel from Japan, and Dodge that assembles 100% of its 3/4 & 1 Ton trucks in Mexico.
I'm in the process of buying a 1 Ton truck. I originally wanted a Dodge/Cummins until I found out they all come from Mexico. I made sure lots of people at Dodge, from dealer to corporation, know why they lost that sale. I then went to Ford, who at first said I could not specify US made. When I explained that if they wanted to sell me a truck it would indeed be assembled in the US they figured out how to do it. that truck is ordered.

In this process when I came to a stumbuling block I called the United Auto Workers local Union at the appropriate assembly plant. They were happy to talk to me, Helpfull, and got me a price break too. Good luck.

People just have to be selective and make sure MOST of the things you purchase are MADE IN USA

I saw a bumper sticker a while back that said:

" Unemployed? Hungry? Eat your import!".

I for one don't know who is supposed to buy this stuff when so many American workers are unemployed.

There was a very good piece on this on 60 Minutes a while back.

They put DISEASES in the water. If you want clean water and a life, you learn computers and you go to America.

The answer as to why there are so many Indian computer techs and engineers is simple - they're better at it than we are, and they want it more.

These kids begin when they're about 5 years old, getting into one of India's prestigious computer schools is their entire life's focus. They study around the clock, have no social lives, and make sacrifices that no North American kid would make. When they get into these schools, especially the most prestigious one whose name I can't remember, they receive the best computer training available in the world, BAR NONE. Software firms gobble these kids up, because not only are they better trained, but they have MUCH better work ethics, and to top it all off, they'll work for less money!

For these kids and their parents, the sacrifices are huge, but it is the only light at the end of the tunnel. 90% of students in North America can never understand the motivation that these students have, and as a result, will never obtain the results.

Ireland has also clued into this, and has started programs to train and subsidize workers for the computer industry, as a result, millions of dollars have flowed to Ireland. If you can get the same job done for half the cost, you'd be stupid (and unemployed) not to.

That's what we're up against, and until we get our house in order, we'll continue to get our axes kicked in the global economy and work force.

When we can manufacture goods of the same quality for the same price, that's when people will buy "American".

Funny, I've had several conversations with people in the last several years telling them American auto quality in the last 15 years is on par with the Japanese. A common answer I get is "yeah, that's because the Japanese quality has gone down since they started assembling in the USA." Sad.

And some UAW workers here had the gall to say it was okay for a line-worker to read a magazine while on the line. Puuuuuuullllleeeeezzzzzz, give me a break.
