Foreign products/STOP buying

C'mon people!! I work for the second largerst commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world. Yes, it is foreign owned, but the vehicles we sell are designed and built in the US with both foreign and domestic parts. We are a global company with offices in nearly every country in the world.

Thinking that buying American will keep Americans employed is pure ignorance. Buying anything in this country will keep Americans employed. Who do you think sold it to you?

Go tell that to the steel workers in PA.

Geez. I don't think anyone wants to bank America's potential for future prosperity on the ability to "close the deal".

Were loosing critical skills to off shore countries. Manufacturing facilities have been closing at exponential rates for so long that we now find it acceptable. These skills leave an area its going to take a generation or two to bring them back in force.

Ok. Maybe we eventaully won't need the ability to process raw materials on continential USA , or the ability to manufacture complex prototypes locally and factories will become a thing of the past - swapping out China made bedpans for twenty years sounds like a great alternative for the segment of the population born to work with there hands.

Yea, rob_nc.......The person that sold it to me is the business owner. This one business owner does not represent the rest of the population does he?
What does everyone else do?
If we demand QUAILTY products then that's what we will get but if we keep on buying this harbor freight crap they will keep on selling it to us.
If I buy a hammer made in china then that means I did not buy it made in the USA and that means no one in USA made it.

Not to get away from the original post but NOT shopping at WalMart might help more than anything else that was said here. They not only sell sweatshop clothes they run the local stores out of business. Supporting your local retailers in the various types of things you buy probably will do more for your economy than refusing to buy a American made foreign car. Cheaper is not better. No way, No how!!!!!!!

I hate Wal-Mart anyway, no matter what time of the day it is, you can guarantee it will be packed. I am from a small-town and can really appreciate the statement to "buy from the local retailer" who is supporting his family and the community by running a store. I don't even eat at places like "Fridays" or "Olive Garden" because of the fact that everything has gone corporate/ chain nowadays. Give me a family owned restaurant or a taco hut any day of the week. There's something about looking an owner in the eye and seeing that he/she really cares about your satisfaction because they depend on you coming back.

Give me some guns, where's my M16!!!!:

I shop at Wal-Mart all the time. Why? They have good prices, and, bluntly, I do not have money to burn. I can pay $20 for a shirt at a men's store...or $8 for the same shirt at Wal-mart. EASY choice.

I can pay $10-15 for an oil filter at a part store...or $2 for a filter at Wal-mart. Again, easy choice.

Yeah, I know me too. I just don't ever look forward to going. I am only persistent about the restaurant thing. I shop at Wal-mart, then again I do a lot ofthings I don't like to do.

Aye, there's the rub.

You see, Wal-Mart, and it's prices, are one of the major reasons why goods are manufactured overseas.

If you want American made, you pay $20, if you want it as cheap as you can get it, from Wal-mart, (which is notoriously cheap in everything from it's hiring practices to the way is sources it's products) then you're going to get foreign made merchandise.

I'm afraid you can't have your cake and eat too.

This is a perfect example of why the trend to overseas manufacturing continues and will continue. (Jaraxle, I don't mean to single you out in anyway, I just think you represent the majority of consumers, myself included most of the time, though I never go to Wal-mart)

For most Americans, and Canadians, patriotism goes about as far as the bottom line.

I bet most UAW workers shop at Walmart, have Sony TVs, Panasonic stereos, and computers with imported motherboards.

It seems strange that paying a few bucks more for a filter or a couple of quarts of oil is bad yet you'll pay more??? perhaps for an American made truck or car because "Buy American" is the way to go. I know it is human nature to purchase items at the best price but it just comes back to hurt us all. Where you shop is fine by me and I don't want to create a problem but I just said that buying from ma & pa down the road helps your LOCAL economy out. Clothing is hard I know but I still don't buy from the cheapie stores. I always try working with the same local parts suppliers and once they get to know who you are, they start offering incentives and disounts because you're a good customer. Does the cheap price place offer these things? I doubt it but it's your money spend it on how you see fit.

Quality is what drives what I buy. If I can save 5 dollars here for something thats sub par I won't do it. I want something that will last and give good service. Failure is not an option. As an example Polairs snowmachines are USA made. Well the quality on them is not what it should be, hate to say it. I've had 2 fairly new ones fail on me out in the middle of the boonies. I won't stand for that.

I hear the argument if we could manufacture the goods for the same cost as other countries. Well is anyone here willing to work for a dollar a day hmmmmm. Well thats a good days wage in Korea/Red China/Latin America. Quit making excuses for why you won't pay a higher price for American after all we are Americans and Canadians in here.

My rub with Wal-mart

They boast about made in america products but the truth is most is from Asia. They dont give a hoot if you come back or not.

India yes they have a lot of smart people there they live to go school . Marrages are pre arrange and its a dirty filthy country.

I thought France was a a dirty stinky country untill I went to India. Thats why they are so moved to do nothing but go to school almost 24/7.

We had some engineers come over a while back they went crazy over here. they couldnt belive how CLEAN America was and thought Wall-Mart was a great place untill they learned about the sweat shops they support.

Face it , like it or not 95% of what we buy is made in Asia or Mexico. I seen a lot of products that say in big letters MADE IN USA but in the fine print it say's made in America assyembled in Mexico , India , China or where ever.

In the next 10 to 20 years we we import 100 % of our goods.

and sadly yes I bought a Kubota tractor , Japan . It has out lasted any other tractor I have owned , I also have a John Deer and and a massie Furgeson
