Glad to hear they are OK. The truck looks to be pretty smashed up as well. Looks like kind of a T-bone sort of thing happened there. The old rat rod seems to be somewhat unprotected at the door area. I think God was watching out for them.

Wow!
Glad to hear that all are OK. The truck looks like it got the worst of it.

What kind of cab is that on the rod? looks like maybe late 30's GM? I had one similar....I think

Another interesting note is the drivers side wheel is ripped off (wrong lugs?) but the impressive thing to see is the wheel adapter or spacer did NOT break. I have always been weary of running them, nice to see that they are strong.

R R's

I hope I don't offend anyone here but every time I hear Rat Rod I shudder! I grew up in the early '50's in North Central California, Stockton to be exact, and most of my buddies and I didn't have any money or at least very much but we wouldn't be caught dead in what they call rat rods, much less own one. You couldn't buy too many after market things mainly because there weren't any being made at the time, so mostly we made our own. We tried to make the cars look the best that was possible with what we had although a lot of the times thing didn't work out too good. The welds were good and the cars were basically good and safe to drive but the things they are putting out today look like an accident looking for a place to happen.
That is only my opinion and not worth much, but non the less it is how I feel. Maybe I'm just too old?

It goes both ways. I have had my share of vehicles I bought that had "unique" fixes that were in no way safe, and there are still plenty of them out there. Also plenty of rat rods with good welds that are safe to drive, just made to look rough. Dont judge until you can see for yourself, I have had so many 60s-70s cars with backwoods fixes that rat rods have always been around, they were just hidden around us!

I think having a Cummins 6BT in front of you may be a safety advantage... 1,000 lbs of modern iron.

I don't know who was driving which vehicle, it really is not important. Im just glad your Niece and her Husband were not seriously hurt, and hope the same is true for the occupants of the other vehicle. Things could have gone so differently, cars/trucks can be fixed or replaced but not so with the human body. My nephew was t boned and burned to death last Christmas Eve. Life is so precious and we never know what any given day will bring. Everybody please drive as safely as possible over this Holiday season.
