I looked into that when I was shopping for mine. One look at the spec sheet made me not interested though. Springs on the front and rear are significantly higher than the regular packages, so I'm sure the ride would be much stiffer. This is the nicest riding truck I've ever had, and it handles 1,000 lbs in the bed just great. There certainly is a use for the HD package, but a bit overkill for me.
I ordered a 2016 with heavy payload package at the beginning of October...not that I really needed the HD payload...just wanted it.
It was listed as late availability but dealer did not know exactly what that meant.
Last week I was advised by my dealer that the HD package and will not be available until "sometime in the first 1/4 of 2016".
I decided not to wait that long and just added a few "al la carte" items to the XLT/301A package like LT-C rated tires and the 3.73 rear end.
For comparison, my 145" SuperCrew has 3,450 front GAWR and 3,850 rear GAWR. My payload is 1,830 lbs, but I believe that drops quickly as you go into the higher trim levels. The HD payload package ups the GVWR to 7,600 lbs, so if my truck had that I could carry around 2,400 lbs.
No real questions, just wondering. I was playing around the build and price last night ans decided to build one. A nicely equipped XLT 4x4 Screw came in at around 45K with HD payload and max tow, ecoboost, FX4 package and a few other goodies.
So, on the previous gen models, the HD package got you up to 8200 pounds on the GVWR. On the new generation, and it's weight savings, what does that equate to now? Is it still an 8200 pound package? If so, that's a stout payload package.

Feeling like a smartass today, so bear with me. I'm gonna quote myself:

Yeah that's great Tom but, on the build and price, you'll note that the website allows you to select up to 3200 pounds of payload with a particular cab configuration.
