I read somewhere that you have to take the steering box off the frame and turn it so the ports are pointing up to get the air out?

Is that what you're talking about?

This is my steering box and yes the inlet and outlet are on the bottom

On top of the list of threads, it's in one of them. They're labeled with Read First.
You'll need to look through them to find it. I'm not where I can find it and share the link

Yes. You have to provide an escape route for the air

PITA to do it, but you'll only have to do it once. It'd be a bigger PITA to rebuild a wrecked truck that you lost brakes/steering in.

You posted you're using the pump from an 03 f250. Use the recommended stock fluid for that pump.

Did you ever figure out what was going on with this? I am having the exact same issues with my hydroboost conversion. No matter how many times I try bleeding the system it still pukes fluid out the power steering pump. All fittings are tight. Driving me crazy. Brake pedal feels fine, but if the front wheels have any load on them (i.e. lower speeds or substantial turn) then the steering freezes up and screams like a stuck pig. When i turn the wheels side to side with the front end off the ground you can hear air rushing in and out of the reservoir and it eventually pukes it out. If i fill it with the engine running then as soon as I turn it off it pukes it out. I too am afraid I hooked something up backwards but everything looks right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i had to do what they said. I had to take the steering box off the frame (with hoses still attached) and tilt it so the ports for the hoses are on the top. Really not hard to do it's just a pita. When you tilt the box make sure you have someone watching the fluid level because it will drop really quick. All this is with the engine running of course.

Part numbers?

Hi, I'm trying to do this conversion on my '83. I also have the master cylinder assembly with booster from an '06 (cheap source on ebay).

Can you post the part numbers you have for the PS pump, steering cylinder, hoses and cooler that make up the rest of the system?

Thanks,
Erik
