power steering issues

Since I bought my truck January 2013 its always had the hard to turn while stopped syndrome. Once it gets rolling just a little bit its all good, so in my laziness I've let it go, partially because its not a DD, I only put about 6k miles on it last year.

So now that its getting nicer out I decided to do a fluid flush. Following the procedures, Ford Super Duty Power Steering Flush | Superdutypsd.com, I removed the PS line going to the hydraboost. Started the truck up and I don't get much more than a dribble coming out of the hose. Had my brother in-law rev the motor up and no difference. Turning the wheels, etc. nothing produced much more than just a little coming out.

Pumps are fairly cheap so I do plan to replace that, but there has to be something else blocking fluid flow. And like I said once the truck is rolling it steers just fine.

no thoughts on this?

I guess i'll get the pump replaced first and see if anything changes, but I was really wanting to get fresh fluid in the system before putting a new pump on it.

I remember it being a slow procedure, talked the Wife into turning wheel lock to lock while pumping the brakes.

I cant even fill the hose with fluid, its just barely comes out at a trickle.

Im wondering are there any inline screen filters anywhere in these systems that might be causing some sort of blockage?

Are you pumping the brakes? You're taking fluid from the hydraboost return line. Fluid only flows out after you release the brake. The return from the gear box is a different line, so turning the wheel won't yield any fluid. However, turning the wheel will help cycle the old fluid out of and fresh fluid into the gear box. The powersteering pumps aren't expensive, but other than the gasket on the reservoir leaking, I don't hear of many problems with them.

Well I got the fluid changed finally. Now the truck pulls to the right pretty hard and if i'm cruising down the road and lightly tap the brake the steering wheel with twitch to the right. I thought maybe it was air locked, so I jacked the front up and with the truck running turned the wheels lock to lock and held it at each lock a few seconds. The wheel turned real easy like it should then I noticed if I applied the brakes while doing the the steering would lock up.

This has me believing my hydroboost is going south.
