Has anyone ever changed the front diff flip in a A-arm from suspension?
Do you have to remove the whole diff to access the front diff cover in order to change it?
It just seem STUPID since it is ALWAYS spinning.
I am contemplating putting a drink in the bottom of the diff to babel to drain it periodically(currently 197k)
Also, does anyone know what axle this is? Looks like a small dana like a 35 or something And ideas on where to get axle seals?
I changed the front diff fluid in my 2002 for the first time a few months ago. But I already had most of the front end apart, just had to disconnect the front drive shaft and it was 2 or 3 bolts to drop the diff. For having almost 220k miles it was pretty clean inside. I put in new axle seals, found OEM on eBay.
If you're good you might be able to disconnect the drive shaft and loosen the diff to slide it back a few inches without actually removing it. might give just enough clearance to remove the cover. Or possibly you could rotate it so the cover is down.

As of right now my whole ranger is in pieces LITERALLY so draining it is no big deal but thinking I may put a 1/2 pipe plug in the bottom of the housing to make oil changes SIMPLE.

LOL I think it is going to be hard enough to just get fluid back in the fill hole, no less sucking the old oil out
I've changed mine by the pump method before. It's pretty simple and works well. Suck out the old, pump in the new. On the '91 Ranger I used to have, I did what you're contemplating, I installed a drain plug. Of course, I never kept the truck long enough to take advantage of the new convenience...

Yeah, you could say your Ranger is in pieces, LOL.
I also pondered drilling and tapping for a plug near the bottom to make future life easier. Decided it wasn't worth it. Unless my job/living situation changes I don't expect to see another 100k on this Ranger for at least 10 years. If I still have it then I can drop the diff again.
