Tire Valve Extensions

SO I have to admit that I am a little lazy when it comes to checking the pressure in my rear tires of my F350 DRW. mainly because getting at those inside stems sucks.

I had them off today to install air bags for the TC and discovered that I had been running about 20lbs soft.

Does anyone use any of the Dually valve entenders? And if so which ones and if you have any photos of them in use, that would be excellent.

Thanks in advance

Well since I don't own a dually, I don't use them now. But I did use one on my RV spare, since the way it mounted the stem was against the back wall. And I used them on my wreckers when I used to drive tow trucks.

Handy as a pocket on a shirt.

I guess I'm even lazier than you, because I used Crossfire Equalizers when I had a motorhome with DRW.

LMAO.. I was looking at the equalizer. My fear in that is if I blow one tire, arent they both going to go flat? Or is there a special valve in there for that?

I know there have to be more DRW owners on here. Or are we all as lazy as I am and only check the front tires on a regular basis?

IIRC, the valve closes after the good tire loses 10psi, or something like that.

They were actually really nice to have. I liked that there was only one valve to fill both tires, and I could check the pressure from 30 feet away.

I have to wonder how they will hold up if the rim becomes snow caked? Guess I would have to try it and figure it out.

My truck is my year round vehicle. Campers, Plowing, etc...

Hard to say. They seem pretty durable, though.

With the 2011 and up rims Ford uses on the daully, it is not easy to mount the 180 degrees apart from each other. The steel wheel has 4 slots and the aluminum has 5 slots.

I did get some metal extensions and bend them slightly for the inner wheels

Thanks. I have the Steel wheels. I was wondering if they should be 180 degrees apart if I use extensions like that. You have them together.

So in looking at my wheels again, Both of my stems are inside my duals. (Then are on the crown side of the rim)

So would it be beneficial to rotate the tires 180 degrees and put the extenders on each side?

I just hate to buy 3 or 4 differnet ones of these things and waste a ton of money.

You may not be able to rotate the valve stems 180 degrees apart. The valve stems may not clock with the hand holes of the wheels at 180. Sometimes, you can get close at 150 degrees, or 120 degrees, but that is not ideal. The inside stem may not line up in the center of the outside wheel hand hole. At least, this is true of my 5 hand hole 550 dually, and my 8 hand hole E-350 dually. I don't have an F-350 dually, so I'm not personally familiar with the lug nut hole to hand hole relationship that would effect valve stem indexing, but it is definitely an impossibility on Ford's other dually wheels.

The OEM has both valve stems clocked together through the same hand hole. I would think it is best just to follow the way the OEM originally configured it.

Did you ever get your ABS light resolved?

It is the 5 hand hole pattern. I think you are correct, they wont line up 180 apart. Do you use extenders on any of the duallys?

No. Still have the ABS light. Have been working on my Son's truck which has taken most of my spare time lately. Hopefully will get to mine sooner, rather than later. Need to get my hands on a reader that will catch ABS. Hopefully will get to it this weekend.

Thanks

There should be no problem on the steel wheels placing the valve stems 180* apart. With steel wheels, I would use one of the hose kits that puts hose on eat of the valve stems on both sides and mount the to the axle hub.

This is a kit I use on a 96 F350 and going to try on the 2015.

No, I don't use extenders. Some extenders can present more risk to rapid deflation than I'm willing to live with. If I did use extenders, then I would make sure that:

1. The valve stems themselves were the all metal clamp in style

2. The extensions were not pressurized

Did you get a chance to read the suggestions I posted on your ABS thread? I was hoping they would lead you to a quick fix without having to hunt down a proper reader.
