A few updates tonight.

- May have found a trans and drive shafts, not too sure about the credibility of the seller, will look into it more
- Coil buckets finished

Finally I have a question for those of you who have gone for a re-gear before. I use my truck all day every day and make my living with it currently. I understand that I will not be driving obscene distances with 4wd engaged but want good reliability. Should i go with the Dana ring and pinion or can i get by with a quality off brand?

Thanks.

More progress.

- Priced up ring and pinion, along with shim kit and bearings. Much cheaper in the USA than Canada, looks like i'll be buying from our southern friends!
- Picked up two 17" wheels for the front. Once i am done the gear swap I'm going to run the solid axle only until i can track down a trans and drive shafts.

<a href="http://s1380.photobucket.com/user/murraymassey1/media/IMG_20151121_150606887_zpscwqmwqvn.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah172/murraymassey1/IMG_20151121_150606887_zpscwqmwqvn.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20151121_150606887_zpscwqmwqvn.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s1380.photobucket.com/user/murraymassey1/media/IMG_20151121_150619968_zpsasxbmls5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah172/murraymassey1/IMG_20151121_150619968_zpsasxbmls5.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20151121_150619968_zpsasxbmls5.jpg"/></a>

Not fancy wheels by any means, but that's not what i'm after. Cheap is good for me, both rims and two good tires for $110!!!!!

More updates to come, getting into the meat of the swap very soon.

More progress tonight. Sorry for the delay in posting, work has been busy.

- I picked up the grade 8 hardware for the coil buckets. No need to take off the old radius arms, they should bolt right up to the old brackets which are in good condition. Just need a deep 15/16 socket
- Ordered an OEM 4.10 ring and pinion. Hopefully should be here soon.
- Wire brushed and painted the axle and radius arms.
- Now have a few solid choices for transmissions. Trying to figure out if i should go with a brand new trans or a good used one.

~~ Once the ring and pinion get here I will do a detailed write-up on my experience, after that I will swap the solid axle under the truck until I can nail down which trans to go with. ~~

Some pics:

Grade 8 hardware:

Before:

Pretty rusty:

Radius arms didn't have much rust at all:

Looking MUCH better:

Not looking bad at all:

Really looking forward to getting this done before the snow really starts to fly! Just for fun, have a look below at the snow we had to deal with last winter. That bank is 13 feet tall. 2WD MUST go!

As always thanks for reading along

Front axle is looking good. Will you be doing new ball joints, u-joints and seals prior to install?

Ball joints are in extremely good shape as are the tie rods. I'm on a fairly tight budget so any seals that need replacing I will do them but the rest of it I will see how it lasts. I love working on this rig so even changing ball joints in the future is not the end of the world. Dare i say that i actually enjoy it.

Something fun tonight, not related to swap but i had to share. I was doing the bearings on my trailer today and could not punch out the races. I dont own a shop press so i decided to build one.

Materials used were two old brake rotors, a 12 ton bottle jack and some 1/4X4" plate.

I know that presses can be dangerous but I tested it to the point that i could no longer pump the jack, my welds held up just fine.

Have a look!

Hey guys, sorry for the delay on the build log, the holidays had me pretty busy as well as receiving an incorrect order on my ring and pinion for the re-gear. I had ordered a 4.10 ring and pinion for my new axle but unfortunately was sent a 3.73 gear by accident. This has been rectified and the last vital part will be on its way so i can get this swap done.

As always a few pics below.
