What part of the VIN is the year stated?
What would the code be for 1964, 1965, 1966?
I'm looking at some trucks, and I can't go by the grills to identify them.
Thanks
Another bit of interesting information regarding the 1965 model year F100; that was the only year engine code "D" was used to denote the truck being equipped with the 352 2V FE V8 engine. For '66 and '67 (the only other years the 352 was used) the engine code was "Y". That should help your state vehicle bureaucrats identify the truck as a '65.
imagine that. 65 is what i wanted anyway. lol.
reckon the county clerk will change the year and vin? both are wrong.
My 1966 Ranger had two digits transposed on the paperwork since day one in California. As I titled it here in Washington state I was able to get it corrected with a little back and forth at our Department of Motor Vehicles. Patience with the particular given bureaucratic system is usually key to getting it done. I gave them what they asked for in both pictures and pencil rubbings and followed up with a phone call to the central office in the state capital. It worked out well in the long run.
The more I try to understand the VIN codes the more confused I get. I recently purchased a 1966?? F100. The VIN is F10YD803686, the following numbers are 115 H F100 481 A A9 05000 172 4000 75. Can anyone tell me what all of this means? All help and replies will be greatly appreciated. In Fords I have a 1966 Ranchero, a 1966 F100, a 1972 F100, and a 1989 F350, you would think by now I could understand the codes, but..............
