Tailgate trim question on a 72 model
Can anyone tell me If a 1972 F250 4x4 plain Jane pickup had any trim on the tailgate? It seems like my dad's truck had the one strip in the middle of the tailgate that said F O R D. The VIN # is F26YCM46485 if that would help. I have aquired a Ranger tailgate that has perfect chrome that I am about to take off. I just don't know if the middle piece is supposed to stay on. I am trying to make this truck as original as possible.
Thank again, Joel

Bottom of the line Customs don't have any chrome logo on the back, but the plain old block letter "FORD" on the 67-72 tailgates looks as good as the chrome in my opinion. I would almost like to make mine removeable so I can have it sometimes and take if off other times. Notice how new ford tailgates from the late 80's , 90's and 2000 have little tiny letters.... Do they not want to own up to the new trucks? Not worth boasting about these days? Hmmm....

I had a lady at the local Ford dealership try to sell me a new truck, as they all try to when you just want to look around. She brought up the subject about trade-ins until I told her I dorve a 71 Sport Custom. She tried to back away from her offer but I stopped her before she could. I simply told her that I didn't think these new trucks would be around in 31 years- and you know what- she agreed! If I were her boss I would have fired her, even though she was right.
