is there a set of headers for my 2008 f250 5.4 rwd that will install somewhat easily without me throwing tools across the garage? I see a lot more options for the older trucks. I have a pretty annoying exhaust manifold leak and I figure I might as well throw some headers on if im gonna be in there. I really want to go for sound rather than power. what are my options? I think I saw a set by flowmaster that looked decent.
I am going to be doing the same on my '04 V10 soon. Recommendations from this site point to Doug Thorley long tube headers. I am not sure if they are offered for your year or engine size. I can tell you they are pricey but seem to be worth the cost.
No one makes long tube headers for the super duty 5.4 trucks, with that said ill start by saying i have Gibson shorty stainless on my 2004 5.4 F350 and they do nothing but loghten your wallet. I didnt feel any power increase maybe if i had the truck dynod MAYBE. only a long tube header is gonna give you torque increase on these trucks, so your left with this. Buy a set for a F150 of your era truck and see how the fit down between the frame rails (your gonna need to modify the y-pipe anyways). Ive been wanting to do this now for years since installing my shorty headers but i dont have the spare cash to "test" a set of f150 headers. If i was gonna do it over id keep my stock manifolds and just install a set of stainless steel ARP studs and forget about it
I was told that Ford racing shortly headers off a mustang would fit my 08 5.4 no problem but with no noticeable power increase. I have done manifolds at 50k and 80k miles. I'm now at 102 so I'm assuming they will need to be done again soon. I will do headers and good quality fasteners so I will never have to do them again
Nojoke whats going bad the Ford studs? If it happened twice to me i would have bought the ARP stainless studs then, i have all original Ford studs that i reused when i did my headers and they are all fine. I do wash my truck off a lot during the winter so maybe that's why or it could have been because I coated them with high temp anti-seize?
Headers and 'never have to do them again' don't belong in the same sentence ime.
When I looked into headers for my 5.4 I came to the conclusion that there would be no benefit over stock manifolds unless you could go long tube and I fought with long tube headers on my 5.8's for years. Never again.
