56 steering column question

Hey everyone.

I'm looking to get a new tilt steering column and there are a few options.

All the sites recommend a 30" column but I can get a 33" for cheaper and locally(in Ontario, Canada) instead of out of the US.

Has anyone used a steering column longer than 30"? Any issues?

I'm pretty sure mine is a 33" and it works better than the 30" would have. The extra extension into the engine compartment gives the linkage more of an angle to bypass the headers. I'm not sure a 30" column would have allowed the linkage to clear. My truck is a '53.

Hey Chad,

I have a 56 and used a 30" Ididit, although I could have gone with a longer one. I think it's more dependant upon
what you're using for exhaust and steering than anything else. I'm running a Coyote engine with stock shorty headers
and a power rack setup that came with the TCI MII front end, the steering lines up nicely. If I had gone longer, I could
have stayed a bit farther from the headers, but would still line up. Be careful what column you use, there's been a bunch of
threads on here about unsafe ones. Here's a link to the internet site.

Cheers

Stock suspension and steering or IFS? That will make some difference on what you can get away with.
