Tekonsha P3 problem

I just picked up my new toy hauler over last weekend and it took several minutes for the P3 to see my trailer. On the way home everything went smoothly. Taking her over to storage and the P3 kept saying no trailer attached. The output voltahe is 13.6 but the output current says at 0.0 with my foot on the pedal. Is there anyting I need to check before I chalk this one up as a defective unit and get a new one?
I also used their wiring specific harness so I could plug into the factory connection if that helps out.

Yes, I would encourage caution in blaming the controller, it almost never is. The controller is most likely alerting you to a poor connection at your seven pin. You just plugged in a new trailer, go there first. The controller is the most reliable component in that entire circuit.

Just my two cents worth,

Steve

check the truck connector... at the rear of the truck.. dirt/corrosion at the pins... or the pins are not pressing on the trailer pins.

If all seems OK, call Tekonsha - they are most helpful manufacturer I have ever dealt with.

Thanks for the quick info. Yeah I was a little hesitant to say a faulty trailer brake thats why I asked. The truck is a 2002 F250 and didn't seem to ever see a trailer so I will start a the 7 pin. If its just corrosion is there anything you guys reccomend (on my tractor trailer we would just use a little sandpaper but those are pins and not blades so I dont know how well that will work)?

I use wet/dry (dry) 1000 grit sandpaper.. a small piece folded in half .. to do both sides at once... like a small fingernail file...

otherwise a new 7 pin connector.

I generally find if the problem is at the rear (which it usually is), it's on the BACKSIDE if the 7 way where the harness hooks to plug.

Not the actual blades of the plug.

Replacement oem style plug in plugs are available at any reputable hitvh shop or online for 12/20 dollars or so.
