The 7.3s are were produced for 3.5 model years (2000-2003.5). The 6.0s were around for about 1.5 model years (2003.5-2005) so I'm confused as to what you're getting at here.
Half of '03 and all of '04 and all of '05 adds up to 2.5 years of 6.0 EXs.
If all of this is accurate, then we have hit the nadir of Used EX pricing.
Normally out of production vehicles turn from "depreciating" to "appreciating" at 17-21 years (unless it's a Yugo/ Renault Fuego/ Pontiac Fiero) in a certain sense this is accurate as well, the first MY Ex was 2000...16 years ago.
If you have one now you are in the driver's seat.
I don't honestly believe that a 150,000 mile 2000 Limited 4X4 7.3 should bring $25K-$30K but there are idiots everywhere...and people make decisions based on emotion, not logic and reason.

Are you saying the Renault Fuego (or ANY Renault) appreciated at some point ???? (smiley banging head against wall)
I think it heavily depends on the market you are in. I also bought mine here in Alaska and paid 9k for it. I have put on 10k miles in the last year and plan on keeping it for a long time. If you go searching for Excursion's up here they are typically worn down, rail-road, department of transportation or very lacking private ownership vehicles.
When I was looking I found some for 6k, but they were auctioned off vehicles that even the local chop shop dealerships wouldn't touch.
I'm actually glad I bought the X with the V10 now, took a new job and I only put 7 miles on her in the last two weeks! Time to find some fix-er-up stuff to do while she sits over the winter, then off to towing duties in the summer!
I'm one of the dumb people who paid the ridiculous prices for 7.3s but I'll explain.
I had very specific requirements.
Had to be a 7.3 - that's what I wanted
Had to be a southwest truck (west Texas, NM, or AZ) - no rust
Had to have no major interior or exterior body defects - I can't do body work myself
I was willing to accept mechanical issues up to and including needing a major engine overhaul
I looked for over a year and finally found a truck that had spent it's life in West Texas and had no body issues. It had a pile (270k) of miles but anyone who knows that part of the world knows the vehicles there get miles racked up on them quickly but that they are very gentle highway miles (everything in west Texas is a long flat highway drive away). I paid $15k but I'm in this for the long haul and in 20 years I probably won't care that I overpaid by a couple of thousand bucks. They are never making another vehicle like this as far as I can tell and I wanted one so I had to pay the cost of admission to the club.
Technically the 99 Super Duty were produced as early as 3/98 and possibly 2/98. There was no Super/Heavy Duty 3/4 or 1 ton 1998 MY.
The 7.3's were produced in the Super Duty line and Excursion until 2003.25 to be exact.
Agree, the Ebay prices for a lot of 7.3 X's are insanely overpriced. I mean a 150K mile 7.3 X for $25K??? Makes me think got a steal of a deal back in 11/03 when the 00 diesel Excursion was purchased for $20K after tax and license with 103K miles in mint condition. Two years ago picked up the 02 X diesel for $6,750. Painted the ugly tan body cladding on the 00 X black and the 02 is all black. The all black X's are the best.

Stating the same thing I did, just differently, or was my post confusing when I stated "And in the F-series trucks they were available starting with the 1999 MY truck."?
I get asked all the time if I want to sell my EX. I say "Sure I will. Price is 35". They say $3500 and I politely tell then "No, $35,000". If some one wants to pay that for her I'd sell her. Oh, and she has a little over 315k on the odometer.
Even here in Germany the prices went up.
I paid 4 years ago for our 2000 v10 around 10kEuros.That was a very low price.
Nowadays you have to pay ar least 15k to get a similar Ex.
Maybe some guys really snapped it that it's better to drive a old, huge and
Gas guzzling truck (old but paid) than to invest in those fragile new cars and to pay
the downpay, leasing or whatever plus every inspection where you get ripped off.
