4 System Code Reader

Anyone use this code reader? Follow the link. It's supposed to read transmissions. What do you think? Thanks.

What specifically are you looking for? Live data, or a fully functional scan tool?

Lots of us use AutoEnginuity, and I highly recommend it. More expensive, but you can do a lot of cool things with it. I've used mine to pull the door keypad codes of a few previous vehicles, it's also capable of programming a new key.

I looked at a bunch of Innova ones, but they at terrible at nickle and diming you for every little thing. They've got charts of which features are supported by which devices, and you have to very carefully figure out which one to buy for the features you want. In particular, they seem to want $100 for the ability to transfer data from the code reader to a computer...

I've got an Autel maxidiag elite MD802, and it can read engine/abs/srs/transmission like your model. It also comes with 1 year of updates for a long list of vehicles [may be the difference between my model and yours, mine seems to be more universal, it lists euro/us/asian manufacturers for updates], paid about $400cdn last year.

One thing I found to be stupid was if you want to transfer saved data from the reader to a computer, the software Autel provides is coded for Windows XP, and works very poorly. If you try to use it, just phone up Autel right away and they will tell you how to disable requiring using signed drivers for Windows 7&up [they are too cheap to get it signed]. And it took me some time to write a program to parse the output to load it into a spreadsheet to see how the live data changes over time.

I just bought autoenginuity as I needed a more advanced tool to bleed my braking system [need to pulse the abs valves just right to get air out of them]. It has a mediocre UI, but is WAY more complete for scanning than the MD802 [if you get the enhanced support for your vehicle]. It's got some decent built-in graphing capabilities. I just briefly tried it on my ABS system to check that it's working, and it showed a nice graph of each wheel's speed and how they changed when I hammered the brakes.

I have to double-check my truck, but the MD802 didn't show any problems with my ABS system [when I checked a couple of months ago], but Autoenginuity is finding it has a computer error and a front sensor error [just now]... I'll retry the MD802 now and see if it finds the same codes.

Anyway, I'll probably wind up selling the MD802, as its a lot more limited than the AutoEnginuity software.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. I would like something that can read transmission codes.

Obviously this one isn't going to do what an Autoenginuity can do, but I don't know your needs or wants. It does claim to have some advanced capabilities for transmission, ABS and airbag stuff on certain brands.
I just got a BlueDriver as kind of a general purpose device for reading live functions, bringing up resetting codes/MILs, etc. It'll also tell you the common causes of codes set and common repairs for them.

I've got 5 vehicles ranging from 2001 F450 to 2003 Cadillac CTS to 2014 F250 gasser so it's sort of an all purpose gadget for me. So far it seems friendly to the iPhone 6 and iPad.
