Acceptable Oil consumption?

How much oil consumption is acceptable in this era of engines?

As new or as 45 years old?

1 quart per 1000 miles is about as much as most people will put up with, and it is the figure thrown out by manufacturers as "acceptable" when they are trying to avoid a warranty claim.

Recent rebuild. 15,000 miles or so.

It eats about 1qt every 2,000 miles.

Some gets fogged out the breathers when I'm running hard for extended times. (Pulling 7% grades that are over 5 miles long)

A quart every 2K is acceptable in my opinion.

2x with the quart every 1K as a rule of thumb.

Switching to 15w-40 caused a lot less oil loss for me. Just about a 1/2 quart low after driving from April -October. Almost 2000 miles.
