Hello to everyone, newbie with first post. Recently acquired a 61 f100 shortie project & need some help with a strange electrical issue.
I started looking into why the fuel gauge wasnt working. Found that on the lead on the gauge that connects the orange wire to the float has a pulsating current to it, same for the temp gauge. I have no idea where a pulsing current would come from.
Any ideas, suggestions, or info would be most appreciated.
I did order a color wiring diagram so hopefully that will help with some of the trucks wiring issues.
The pulsing voltage is normal. It's coming from just behind the gauge cluster, a little charmer called the ICVR, or Instrument Constant Voltage Regulator.
Start by taking the wire off of the tank sending unit and use a jumper or similar to ground the wire, when grounded the gauge should go to FULL. If it does the problem is in the sending unit or float that has sunk.
