Just picked up a 66 F100 4x4 yesterday so I figured I'd join FTE. Truck is a project so I will probably be asking lots of questions in the future. Oh yeah, its a lwb styleside with a 390 NP435 D24 9" and d44 original red and white paint. Anyway hello to all
Hope to see ya around. All FE engines become 390s on sale day but your truck did not leave the factory with one. If original it's a 352.
John
yeah agreed, this 390 almost tried to be a 428. however took off a cylinder head and checked bore and took off pan and checked rod part numbers. 390s are very, very common up here in the northwest almost as common as the anemic 360. truck was originally a 300 six according to VIN everything else is original to truck except hood, bed, and drivers door. Gonna pull the 390 in the spring and replace with 429 or 460.

Did someone swap out the transfer case? From the factory the 1966 F100 4x4 would have come with the Dana 21 married style single-speed gearbox. It has 3 operating positions; 4-wheel drive, neutral, and 2-wheel drive. The shift lever is as straight as an arrow and not very long.
The Dana 24 was the transfer case used in F250s in 1966 and it was a divorced style two-speed gearbox. It has 4 (marked) operating positions; 4-wheel drive HI, 2-wheel drive HI, neutral, and 4-wheel drive LO. The shift lever has a definite dog leg to it, is longer than the Dana 21 shifter, and is bent back toward the seat.
