I'm looking as swapping out my 3.73 to 4.88 in my 08 F350 4x4. Going to install a true trak rear diff as well and might do the front if I have the cash. Does anyone know what approximate labor cost would be?
There were a lot of things I wanted to add to my 2005 f-250. it was cheaper (difference in cash) to trade it in on a 2008 f-350 that had everything I needed.
prices will be all over the map.. same with parts. ask the local gear shop.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. The debate wasn't if I going to do gears in both axles. The debate was if I'm going to change differentials in both or just change the rear.
That doesn't really clear it up. You should either just change the gears in both diffs front and rear or do neither.
Also contrary to what someone posted earlier I can't see it taking eight hours to do one gear set, that time estimate had better be for both, with a lunch break.
My ideal setup would be 4.88 with a trutrac rear and e-locker front. What is comes down to is if I need the front locker. I snow plow and my rear LS is shot so a better differential is needed in the rear. There have been time where I have gotten stuck with a front wheel off the pavement and one wheel just free spins while the traction wheel does nothing. That's where a locker front would be nice but don't know if the cost is justified for those rare occasions
