Shop recommendations for gear swap?

Hello fellow Idahoans.

I'm in Pocatello, but am looking for recommendations on good shops who specialize in gear swaps. I am looking to swap my gears to 4.30 from 3.73. Willing to travel for a good shop.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Chapter, Shawn.

Have you tried contacting any of the site vendors listed in the "Vendor Directory" link at the top of the page? I haven't done a gear swap on my truck, so I haven't looked for a shop that can handle this.

I am planning on having the rear gears in my 1979 Mustang swapped out, so I will be looking for a shop to do this sometime this summer. Is this something you need done right away? Or are you just starting to gather information about reputable shops?

Modern Driveline, in Caldwell, is a reputable 5-spd and 6-spd transmission shop. I don't think they do rear gear swaps, but if you contacted them and asked, I bet they would know of an excellent shop to do the work you need. I plan on swapping out my 4-spd non-OD transmission in my Mustang for a 5-spd OD transmission with a new rear gear set. They are at the top of my list to do the transmission swap for me, and I intend to ask them if they can do the rear gear set as well.

I have "Finals Week" at Boise State University coming up soon, so I'm spending my "free" time studying. I have an Accounting Exam tomorrow morning.

If you want to contact them:

Shawn, did you get the information you needed? Or have the work done somewhere already?

I have a call in to Corwin Ford (Nampa) and Modern Driveline (Caldwell) requesting information.

Modern Driveline does not do installation work, but I was given "Jim's Drivetrain" (208-384-5015) in Garden City. Jeff (Modern Driveline) used to work there and recommends them.

I haven't heard back from Corwin Ford yet.

Still haven't heard back from Corwin Ford. Big surprise. Jim's Drivetrain estimates my gear swap will cost $300 - $500, but they basically do a complete rebuild of the rear end and do a safety inspection while they have the car on the lift to see if anything else (bushings, etc.) need replacing.
