Well I chipped my baby

Never gave it much thought because I was satisfied with the performance and didn't see the need for more power, still don't and I tip the scales at 20k regularly.

Since my truck is pretty much stock and XPD was offering the TS6 for only $153 delivered I thought "what the hell".

My surprise was not at the extra power but the improvement in drivability. I live in east TN and seldom see roads over a posted 55, mostly 45 actually. With a ZF5 and 3:55 gears I seldom exceed 2000 rpm and spend most time between 1000 and 1600. In that range the truck is so much happier, effortless even. Empty numbers by the way, I haven't hooked up the trailer yet.

I'm a grandpa and drive like one with no desire for the sooty stuff. I just wanted to say how surprised and happy I am with this simple upgrade.

I still run the stock air filter setup and exhaust. Maybe I'll have to look into that next. I know... I know slippery slope.

Drive safe and be happy,
Bob

I would definitely look at exhaust and an intake. You will be surprised how much it helps with the drive ability as well.

Nice to see a fellow east TN guy

First in your list should of been an egt gauge if not have one.
Second exhaust that down pipe is really, really restrictive
Third getting rid of the stock air housing and installing a 6637 filter
Not being rude but a tunner with none of this mods really increase high egts even on the slightest hills since you said you hit the scales at nearly 20k this potentialy will cause a catastrophic failure on you engine

Good luck and welcome to the dark side of modding your truck

I've been running chipped ,with sticks since o6. No EGT guage , no 6637 , stock down pipe , & regularly tow 20k without any issues . Decide for yourself & don't let anyone scare you into the hype . My Trans was the only casualty from the extra HP (My own fault)

Thanks. I have 4 pillar gauges: fuel pressure, oil temp, boost and EGT and compliment that with a torque pro setup. Installed those about a year ago so I feel like it have a good baseline. I'll be keeping a close eye on things when I hook up. Another benefit of the ts6, I can go back to stock with the twist of the wrist should things get out of hand.

Right now the fuel pressure guage is telling me that my lift pump can't keep up on even the 40hp tune under a good load so I have a little work to do there.
