Help!! I just bought a 1994 Ford Ranger XLT, 4.0L V-6, 5 speed,
4 wheel drive and it clatters something awful!! Even with premium fuel, when it gets warm ( all summer here in West Texas) it clatters like the rocker arms are going to come through the valve covers. The engine is in good shape otherwise and has 143,000 miles on it. Burns very little oil between changes.
I am also thinking about the MAS/MAF mod to add the 100K ohm resistor to the IAT...Can anyone help me with that also?
Thanks in Advance!
Great Forum!!
BTW, the truck came from Wyoming originally...might the onboard computer need to be reset for my lower altitude?
Stan: First try cleaning your MAF sensor. I use Throttle Body cleaner. There are threads in this forum with specifics on how to do this. Next, take off the negative battery cable for about 20 minutes and allow the computer to reset itself to the defaults.
Pinging and clatter is a common concern but it can be solved.
With regard to the codes, many of the auto parts stores - Auto Zone etc. provide this service with the hopes of selling you the needed parts to fix the problem.
As far as I know the 94 is eec-iv, have you read the link in the tech info post at the top of the page. I think the connector might be in a different location on a 94 but still in the engine compartment.
