Finally got a chance to check the mpg of the Silver bullet today. And with a combined city/freeway driving over the past 170 miles, it averaged 20.4 mpg. That is not bad, and much better than the 12-14 I got with the Bronco, or 10-12 I got with the F-350, which is to be expected of course, but still nice to see.

Happy Thirsty Thursday Nor Cal.

Rack and pinion installed. Found out Monday when the mechanic checked the codes and reset the check engine light, that it appears the intake manifold was replaced. So that is cool. There is a problem with the plastic manifolds on these cars, and mine has already been replaced. May have to buy a MAF sensor next payday, but I would rather do that than have to buy a manifold.

I did not check, but I am hoping they replaced it with an aluminum manifold. Will have to check the next time I pop the hood.

Just wanted to stop by & say hello Nor Cal. Jim thanks for your support of the Nevada Chapter. You mileage is about the same as our 99 Crown Vic P71. We had an 88 T-Bird 302 with an AOD & it got 22-25 mpg, which surprised me. I wish I still had that car. I loved it.
It looks like my F150 4x4 302 is finally going to get me 16.9 or a little more. That sure beats the 10 -14 it got before doing the exhaust.

You're welcome.

That is interesting that a 302 gets better mpg than a 4.6. Oh well, I am still stoked, as mine gets much better mpg than any of my trucks did.

That surprises me too. But I think the 4.6 is overall a better engine. Remember the 87/88 T-Birds were pretty areo. The 87 T-Bird is what still holds the top speed at Talladaga when Bill Elliott set that record back in 87. I jealous anyway, I think you have a great car. Finding one in the condition of yours is hard to find. Anything over 20 mpg is good IMHO.

I am sure the reason Bill Elliott's record is still standing is due to the restrictor plates they have to run now. Or did, now that they can have fuel injection, I don't know how they restrict them.

I am definitely happy with 20 mpg.

Jim I'm sure you are very right. But he did it in a stock body car. In fact the T-Bird was so areo over the others NASCAR made the Ford teams add height to the roof to cause more drag.
That was back went NASCAR was closer to real racing. Not the joke they are today.

I don't watch many sports anymore because it is all big business now. Just saw a article on the internet about the 5 most expensive stadiums to see a football game. The 49'ners stadium is the most expensive at $640 for a family of four. (4 tickets, 2 beers, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas, 2 adult caps, and parking). The ridiculous salaries of the players means the owners have to get the money back somehow.

I have not stayed current with the NASCAR scene lately either. I do remember the drivers complaining one year because whatever NASCAR did, made them all run pretty much in one big pack, making it almost impossible to pass.
