I purchased a 2015 F-250 4X4 6.7 last June. Lately I have noticed that when I turn the truck off, I hear a click and then a sound (like an electric motor running). The sound last for about 10-15 seconds, and sounds like it is coming from under the driver's side, rear passenger door. I am thinking it may be the fuel pump. I don't recall it making the sound before but maybe it did.
My guess is your hearing the DEF pump doing its after run, completely normal. DEF will crystallize when it dries, so the DEF pump will reverse to clear the injector line to prevent blockage.
When the vehicle is shut down, the PCM closes the reductant injector and actuates the reductant pump purge valve, causing the reductant pump to reverse the pump flow and bleed down the pressure from the reductant pressure line. The PCM then opens the reductant injector to allow air to enter the reductant pressure line, which in turn allows the reductant pump to purge all remaining reductant from the system and return it to the reductant tank. The PCM then closes the reductant injector and returns the reductant pump purge valve to the forward pump position.
