okay, so i have a 90 bronco ii and when i turn the keys on, the fuel pump makes a single knock, and doesn't pump. i hotwired the pump to test it, and it does the same thing. does this mean the pump is shot, or is there something stuck in the line somewhere?
Something ya might try. That Fuel System from the Pump to the Pressure Regulator is always under pressure. Years ago was driving down the highway and mine just quit. Got it towed to the house. Engine would spin like crazy but wouldn't cranck. Figured the Timing Chain had broke OR the Fuel Pump had quit. Focused on the Fuel Pump first. Mine did the same thing as yours'. A "Click" but no 2-3 seconds "whirring" sound. Thought maybe a line was stopped up so i relieved the Pressure on the line by removing it from the Pressure Regulator. Turned the key on and suddenly gasoline spurt out of the line, then dribbled then did it again a couple of times and finally got a steady stream. Something was apparantly blocking the line enough where the impeller in the pump wouldn't even turn. Ya try that and it doesn't work you probably got some corroded connections at the Fuel Pump or the Pump itself is bad. Either way you'll have to pull the tank and if ya do that i'd go ahead and replace the pump cause yanking the skid plate, the straps, and all is a real pain!
