Really dumb steering box question

What size sockets are required to remove the pitman arm and the tie rod ends?

I am hours away from my project truck and last minute stuff has come up (aka, funding) that says I am going to be changing the steering box in my truck tomorrow. Problem is, I don't know what size sockets are required to remove the pitman arm and tie rod nuts to get it out. I need to grab some tools from work but am limited as to what I can take home 'cuz I commute on a motorcycle. I can handle the rest of the fasteners but I know the other two are way bigger than I have at home. Taking my pickle fork, can of PB Blaster and hopefully a little luck as well with me.

Thanks in advance...

On my 78 4x4 F250 the pitman arm to steering box is a 1 1/4 and the pitman arm to steering link is 7/8. Same for the tie rod end stud thru the knuckle, 7/8.

How are you carrying a jack to get both wheels off the ground during the p/s system bleed?

I have a couple spankin new bottle jacks at home already:-) Being a big rig mechanic, I have a metric crapload of tools at work but since my fortune and the inheritance that my kids will never see is tied up in tools at work, I have very few at home. I would do the danged steering box here at the shop but the engine is sitting in a crate at the moment and I figure that getting that original steering box out of the truck without an engine is going to be FAR easier. Engine goes in Monday.... hence the fire under my butt. Thank you for the speedy response. That helps me HUGE!!!

One 12" or 18" crescent (adjustable) wrench should open up enough. At least a 18" will open up to 2 1/16.

RedHead is THE BOMB!!!

Installed my new RedHead steering box and I gotta say WOW!!!! THAT is one incredible box. Went from 25 degrees of free play to none. It is truly a night and day difference. I am pretty local to their Auburn, WA location so I picked one up there. Took my old one in for a core and the whole process was painless and only took a couple minutes. Glad some fellow FTE'ers turned me on to them.
