I have a 1997 F250 (converted to a D60). It has a LOT of slop in the steering. It tracks very well down the road, and all of the bushings, etc. were replaced very recently. I'm wondering if it is the steering box that is causing the issue? Also, how many hours labor is it to replace the steering box if that's the culprit? Thanks!
I also posted the thread in the older F150 threads as well
its actually a pretty simple job to replace the box. couple hours max if I remember correctly.
The box is probably partially to blame if its stock and if you're gonna replace it, go with a box from Red Head.
But I'm betting most of the slop is from your tie rod rolling. Have someone saw the wheel back and forth and watch the tie rod. It's probably rolling back and forth. Its common on these trucks with a D60, especially if the ride height has been changed and the pitman arm isn't quite long enough.
