Just a heads up for thoses that do not already know. Just Dashes sells brand new dash pads for '80-'85 trucks made on original Ford tooling. It comes in White or Black, and while the price is not exactly cheap at $450 but its not bad if you are in need of a brand new dashpad.
Its made just like the originals but the holes in the defroster vent area have to be drilled out yourself. The are from my understanding from my email response marked.
I installed one in a customers '82 F150 that was painted with color coat interior paint for plastic and vinyl in saddle tan to match the door panels. It actually looks very good for what it is.
I will be buying one for my truck but down side is my dash is cracked pretty heavily around the glovebox due to the dealer A/C and having the vent openings cut in the non air dash. Not sure how good it will look on mine painting the whole dash oem color.
Correct lmc jst sells the dash caps that you glue down on your existing pad. Fine long as you dont have large grand canyon like cracks that wont allow the cap to lay down right. Peronally the time to make a cap fit on the pad vs buying new i think ill go new.
I just hope the shadow blue is the right paint. I got it from amazon and the door panels and arm rest pads are listed as shadow blue. Looks dark compared to my already dark blue dash.
Reamer, I followed as this patch was tediously designed, developed and manufactured. It was a group effort, but I see a lot of Gary Lewis work! And I know it was you who took it to completion and I think it looks wonderful! Can the plastic used in the 3D printing be painted?
I believe the SEM paint works well, (it's not in a "high traffic area" to be scratched up)
Have not tested the theory though.
I was not interested in the shapeways colored plastics for 2 reasons, 1 cost more, 2 never match our colors.
Tried to rep Gary for the hours of Cad design-learning curve, but "not allowed?"

I also could not rep him, and bragged on him in the original thread, but he responded that it was a "group effort".
Thanks for the thoughts, but Ron funded it and, therefore, took all the risk. So I think the project and solution are his.
To me it was an oppo to use my software to learn and stretch my mind. And, it is through learning and stretching that the mind is most likely to remain agile. (Something that appears to be required as people age, and especially in some families.) So, I benefited greatly from the project as I gained just enough knowledge about 3D CAD that I can now use it to draw other projects and examine them from any direction.
How much do you want to bet the foam rubber for the speaker grille is as dry-rotted and crumbles into dust just like ours do... There's even a chance the actual vinyl itself is brittle and will crack instead of flexing when you squish it down with your thumb....

Probably so, vinyl that aged regardless of its appearance is going to be dried out. Man for as much you guys are paying for these dash pads I could make a killing getting all the crap out of the JY and redoing the vinyl lol. Used dash $10 - vinyl $40 - adhesive $10.
