Was the coil or the boot bad?
The coils don't usually go bad unless there is a crack in the case or such.
The boots which contain the high voltage pulse to the plugs or the spring getting rusty are often the issue.
It was the coil. A few months ago I did find a bad boot on this same cylinder, replaced that and it didn't fix the problem. Now with a different coil it runs good.
The coil that went bad was a Car Quest aftermarket coil. A couple of years ago the same coil went bad so I replaced it with one from the local parts store. This time I replaced it with a Motorcraft coil.
