can I use ford Gold coolant in 1998 4.2 v6?
I had my radiator replaced in July at a radiator shop while on a 4000 mile camping trip. I checked the sales receipt and the shop used Ford gold. I know they did the garden hose flush. Should I be concerned that Ford Gold is mixed with green coolant? I am concerned after reading the threads about Ford gold clogging diesel coolant systems. Since my coolant is mixed I will do a complete flushing including the block drain plugs.

The gold came into being as a factory fill in 2002 (mine is an '02 built in June or July and has the gold stuff).
I have read some stuff that says it's fine to mix the two Ford formulas...but I think there are varying formulas of green antifreeze as well depending on the brand.
If I were in your position I would do a full flush and switch over completely to gold or stay with the green. I guess one consideration would be how good future availability of the 2 formulas will be, and another is price.
I think there is a bigger problem with mixing GM Dex-Cool and other formulas.
Good luck,
George

How Do I Remove Square Engine Block Drain Plug On 4.2 V?
I bought Zerex Green for this van and could not remove the square engine block drain plug. 11 mm socket was too big and 10 mm socket was too small. Any ideas how to remove this square plug?
I found this image on an F150 forum-the markings on not mine.
I did the standard urban ghetto flush with the garden hose in the over flow reservoir with the engine running and ran the engine for 15 minutes with the heater on.
