I have a chance to buy a 302 out of an f-150 1993 to be exact. The question is on the computer I will try to post pics. Owner says that the trans is an aod which would be eaod (correct) . Is this an easy swap as far as everything goes and is the electronic trans the onlly computer operated thing on this set up. I am wanting to put into my 55 F-100 as you can tell buy the thread that I have no clue on newer stuff. The pictures did not load I will try again. Can't seem to upload pictures and it is beer 30 so will try later in the weekend. Was any other automatic put in a 93 F-150 with a 302?
When you're talking Ford trucks there were 3 automatic overdrive transmissions available, 2 of them(E4OD and 4R70w) were computer controlled but there was also an all mechanical AOD and if that is what this donor has it would be a perfect candidate for your swap, you could do the EFI thing with it but you could also carb it if you wanted and still have an OD trans.
The EFI system requires a speed input and that was sourced from a trans sensor on the early EFI trucks but it was moved to a rear diff mounted sensor and routed through the dash cluster starting in '92, so things get a little more complicated.
No.. not an AODE, that was yet another real ford trans but it was never used in trucks. Those pics are the all mechanical AOD just like the owner said.
Yep that is a truck motor with Mustang shorties on it. The thing I thought I saw on the back of the intake was nothing turns out, I thought it might be a Mustang or Explorer motor for a second there.
Is there another O2 sensor in the passenger side header?
Is that 2-wire harness the only one attached to the trans? If so that and the cable going from the trans to the throttle linkage confirms it's an AOD. This is great news for you of course because it means you just need a basic engine control system for this motor so you could use the engine harness and computer from an '87-91 pickup with an AOD or manual or an '87-92 Mustang harness and computer.
