strange problem

I finally got my bronco motor running and legal. I took it out for the first extended trip and ran into a problem. When the motor heats up to operating temp, it wants to die. As I come to a stoip, the engine will die. It will start right up, but as soona s you put it in gear, it dies. I have no neutral safety switch, so also, if you start it in gear, it will drive just like normal. Aside from this, the engine runs great.
The engine is a 302 with edelbrock carb and intake, Mallory Hyfire ignition. Trans is the stock C4.

Could plugs that are gapped too small cause this? otherwise, I am at a loss...

strange problem

Check your tranny fluid level, sometimes low fluid will prevent the tranny from downshifting at a stop and kill the engine. also check your choke, it may be sticking.
