Replacement Mirror Questions

Hi all,

I just got a 2012 F250. While it came with the receiver hitch, trailer plugs and even the factory brake controller, it only has the regular, not the telescopic mirrors. I am planning to get a 7' wide cargo trailer next spring, and I am thinking I will probably need the telescopic mirrors?

Question 1: Does anybody here pull a 7' wide trailer and find the regular, non-telescopic mirrors ok for that width? Or do you agree that I will need the telescopic mirrors?

I understand buying the factory mirrors from Ford requires signing over your first born, plus a limb of their choice. I see replacement mirrors on Ebay, presumably from China (and btw, do we really know that the Ford factory mirrors are made in the USA?) at much more reasonable prices.

Question 2: I'm wondering how the quality is on them? Has anyone here bought them and can comment on that?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Regards
John

You sure?
Mine are manual telescope, but you can tell without pulling on them

I've tugged on mine, and they don't move. Nor are there any switches for the power version. The owners manual has a section on the regular mirrors, and a separate section labeled TELESCOPING MIRRORS (IF EQUPPED). I take it from that that they were optional and not standard.

I bought tow mirrors from them for my F150, their quality is top notch.

I cannot comment on the specific mirrors for your truck, but I have purchased mirrors on both eBay and Amazon, the most recent being when I put 08 style mirrors on my 02 truck. I only ordered manual mirrors so the price was under $200 a pair. I found I never used the power settings on my mirrors as once I set them, I left them alone, so that worked for me.

The quality is fine, though I do not think they are as well made as the OEM mirrors that came on my truck.

Whether or not you will need them is kind of a judgement call, but I do think you add a level of safety if you have mirrors that provide a wider field of vision when towing.

If your still looking I also recommend getting a set from 1AAuto. I got a set of the new style mirrors for my '06. I bought the power fold. Very easy install, direct bolt on replacement and great quality. Power fold installs easily.
