Transmission replacement

Transmission went out on my 2000 7.3 2wd X last week now its time to make some decisions...

Although I'd love to go with BTS cost is a factor so the next option is a Ford reman HD4r100. Unfortunately the motorcraft application chart doesn't list a 2000 Excursion, it starts with 2001.

Has anyone with a 2000 used the HD transmission?

My transmission tag showed YC3P-EB. I was hoping the TRM1619 would be a direct replacement. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Personally, if I were you I would look for a local ATRA certified rebuilder.

Tell them exactly what you want done to it. E.G. remanufactured, with all bushings, seals, ect. Include you want all new HD parts and all factory defects and issues addressed.

Tell them you want all the removed parts back. Bushings, center support, filter, clutches, steels,...everything. Won't get tq converter it's cored.

My ATRA rebuilder wanted right at $3000 to do it my way. Installed with a 1 hr flush on my lines and cooler.

I did not do it though. My issue ended up being the 1/2 up shift spring in the accumulator. $50 and 2 hrs of my labor fixed it.

That's odd, as the 2000 and 2001 transmissions are identical and interchangeable.

Thanks. This is the chart that has me confused.

Think I'm good ordering a TRM1619? It matches up with YC3P-EB but for some reason 2000 excursion isn't listed.

Trm- 1621 for 1999 thru 2000. No excursion listed.

Trm- 1619 for 2001 thru 2003. Excursion is listed.

Odd. I would lean toward the 1619 too.

Great thread. Thanks for the link. Only difference is he's got an '01 4wd and I've got a '00 2wd. I called that dealer (I'm only 3 hrs from there) and the parts guy I got had no idea what a trm1619 (6U2Z7V...) was. Might try to call back tomorrow morning and see if the parts mgr might be more help.
Still the big question is whether one of these HD transmissions will work on a '00 X.

The difference between 4WD and 2WD is an output shaft and tailhousing. You're worrying about peanuts on whether something works on a '00... I'm almost done with a trans build for my 2001 and I'm using an E99 MY trans for the build. Some small internal parts are different but otherwise the case, mountings, programming requirements, etc have remained the same. Just throw them the part number for the 2001 2WD.

Hey, Wild. When you call Truck City again, ask for Drew! Nobody else there knows there a$$ from a hole in the ground. Drew is top notch with his knowledge AND his excellent customer service. I even bought him lunch when I was done buying parts because he was so damn helpful to me. My local dealer is the exact opposite.

He has your 2WD 4R100HD in stock. Says he always has at least one of each.

There is a place in Jacksonville FL that advertises 4R100 rebuild with all HD internals the same day and 2 year warranty. $650

Good luck

Finally got my truck back today and I couldn't be happier. I ended up spending quite a bit more coin than I originally planned but I think the results are going to be worth it.
I went with the John Wood Automotive Econo-HD transmission, replaced the stock cooler with the 6.0 cooler, and threw in a Power Hungry Performance Hydra chip.
I've only put about 25 miles on it so far but the difference is night and day. The new set-up shifts really well. Quick and firm shifting. Looking forward to seeing how it tows now!
Thanks for all the advice/opinions!

You get what you pay for, and in my opinion, you got a home run with that setup.

A lot of years ago I had John build me a 4R100 for the Ex. He installed it along with a 6.0L trans cooler I had previously purchased, along with a trans lock-up switch and I couldn't be more satisfied.
