I have seen somewhere erlier that trick with welding some plates in oil pan and gaining some hp. Anyone tryed this method, what are your results ? Can't find the source of that article too.. Thanks.
Typically and in all my years I've never heard of increasing HP via the oil pan. If you're talking about what we once called a "windage tray" that was a useful device for preventing oil in pan being whipped into a foam by the crankshaft counter weights. This was used if a dry sump oiling system wasn't employed.
I knew them to be used mostly on Chrysler 426 Hemi motors, some 383's and 440's too.
That's as tricky of an oil pan I know of--------anyone else?
I have 302 engine, saw the same article maybe even in here, can't find it now anywhere. main thing was that by wielding some additional plaes in oil pan and the right holes in that plate and gaining by that a few horsies.
It's called a windage tray. Google it.
This is not something you are going to do yourself unless you REALLY know what you are doing.
It helps to minimize aerating the oil and has a minimal effect on hp by keeping the rotating assy. out of the oil.
thnaks for answer, so no really need of this in the van, right ?
Very little need for such a part anywhere in the typical street-driven vehicle of any description. Windage tray's were primarily and almost exclusively found in super high performance engines with crazy deep oil pans. Your 302 doesn't even come close to that sort of description, not with a stock oil pan.........
...and the proper amount of oil in the pan too........

Sorry, not true. I would get cramps typing up the examples.
