Wrong oil Pan?

Wrong oil Pan?
I have a 1978, 300I6
I swaped engine in november. (I used a 1977 engine) I did not change the oil pan or anything.
To my surprise yesterday when i went to check the oil. I realize the "oil stick" is in the front forward portion of the oil pan, the shallow one.
If i got it right, my "oil stick" should go into the deep end of the oil pan.
Is it possible I have the wrong oil pan? or the wrong "oil stick"?
Just wondering?
