Engine Change

Well it finally gave up my (351w) I mean in my 1987 f-250 4x4 Auto. I have another motor (351w) I'm getting ready to install. Now my question. Myself being a older guy with a few limitations physically will need to have someone go under to loosen or remove as needed. Budget is also a concern. I want to get the topside ready so I can keep costs down plus I want to help.
How long will it take to do the under side work do you think and whats involved.
Should I try and remove the front clip to help with this task. I plan on the radiator and hood and grill. Any thoughts. THX David

I have pulled engines without removing the hood or rad so I think you're good, should be lots of room underneath an F250 for your helper too. Hardest part is often breaking the exhaust clear, otherwise the engine mounts, TC and trans are easy enough with the right sockets, extensions, and box end wrenches. I have done a complete swap in a weekend by myself.

THX I will keep that in mind. I just don't want to damage rad.

I cut a piece of plywood to cover the rad because if you don't guaranteed a wrench will slip off something and damage it sooner or later. Part of the reason for leaving the rad in was it was attached to an auto trans and the lines were corroded so I was avoiding the extra work and the potential for breaking a cooler line or the rad. If it was a manual truck I would have just pulled the rad.
