If you use a scraper, make sure it is plastic. Don't use anything like paint thinner that will dissolve the adhesive as it will mess up the paint. Heat, patience and a soft edged scraper are your best options.
It is a sticker over the clearcoat. I had a booboo with my truck shortly after I bought it and the bedside got repainted. Sticker just stuck on when the paint was dry.
I just use my nails and peeled the corner up and pulled. I did that the first day I got the truck. There was a little residue left, just get some WD-40 spray some on a rag and it comes right off.
On factory paint it will be on top. You can start the removal with a single edged razor blade, but be very careful. Once it's started, just peel it off. Any adhesive that remains can be removed with mineral spirits, nothing stronger. As a graphics shop that specializes in custom automotive graphics and wraps, I've been doing this for over 20 years. Just take your time and you'll have no problems..
Hello to the Group,
I would like to remove the 4X4 decal from the rear fenders of my new F 250.
Is there a way to do this and not screw up the paint ?
thx
Be careful when using heat to remove the decal, to much and you can damage the paint underneath. All you have to do is use a low setting and work slowly. best thing to do is park it in the sun on a hot day and let'er heat up then work slowly to peal it off. Should work just fine, a little glue let over will come of with WD 40.
I heated mine with a hair dryer, used a plastic scraper to get it started, then cleaned the residue off with WD-40. Worked like a charm.
Mine had been on for 13 years, and the paint had not faded around it. Truck must have been inside a lot.
Sounds like they'll peel right off, but for the stubborn ones, you can buy a decal eraser wheel that goes in a drill and will take them right off. And it won't hurt the paint at all.
Thanks for all the input. Gonna try to peel it off Monday.
Got to thinking, I have only had it for a month and bought it new (2015 model), but I am sure that it sat at the dealer for a number of months....
Oh well, I just think it will look a lot better w/o the 4X4.....
