transmission swap

i think that the reverse gear is out on my 88 zf5. could I pull the 4 speed out of the 85 and install it?

Diesel to Diesel it will, you will have to change the flywheel/clutch and I believe the master and slave cylinder as well.

Hydraulics will be the same. Transmissions will swap ONLY if they're both 4x4, or both 2WD.

Is it a 4x4 truck, by any chance? What's happening when you try to use reverse?

I honestly think swapping the individual gear would be better :/ I would kill for a ZF
