My 302 won't run anymore. It ran b4 we put it in but now it doesn't. We changed the distributor to points because I couldn't figure out how to wire the electronic to my '65. First, I got the dist. out of an old 70 pickup and I don't think it was an HO motor..but would that make a difference? Second, how do I go about setting the timing? B/c it fires, but its definitely not right. THanks again!
Ok you first mistake was getting rid of your electronic ignition. You will grow to hate points.
By the way your condenser is probably bad
Find a distributor out of a late 70’s (i.e. 78 ) and the ignition module also. Look in a junk yard ( the old fashioned type that will let you browse around ) Get the harness from the ignition module to the distributor and coil then you will need to run one wire to the ignition switch this will be the only wire from the module that does not go to the engine / distributor and coil. I ran this wire to the nearest key'd hot wire.
This is what I did with my 69 f-100 when I swapped my I-6 for a 302 and don't miss filling points any more.
Thanks for that reply. I already have an electronic dist. out of a truck. Actually it was the one that was in it, but it came out of a '78 I believe. So would it be okay to just use it? And secondly this may sound dumb, but where is hte ignition module? And last, the dist. has the three wires, just no wiring harness. Any clue on those? Like which colors go where. I would like to hook up the electroic ig. Thanks again!
