So here's what's going on. I bought a remanufactered 78/79 steering box. It's been sitting in the shelf until I was ready for the steering part of this project. Anyways I installed the box and it seems the splines do not line up square with everything else. I mean that when the pitman arm goes on (after I centered the box) it is at approx 45 degrees off. I am doing crossover steering so the pitman arm will be clocked a different direction anyways but still this isn't adding up to me. Am I missing something here or is it possible that whomever rebuilt this unit to have messed up the alignment of the splines. Any help is appreciated
4wd f250 rear facing pitman arm. I know that they originally exited to the drivers side to connect the drag link to steering knuckle. That might have something to do with it, but if that's the case how do you do a crossover steering with this box
When I get home tonight I will center the box and put the pitman arm on and show you what is happening. I don't know if I'm just brain farting or what ?

In another thread, you were looking for a 1978/79 Bronco (same as F150 Regular Cab 4WD) P/S Pitman Arm, but it was not used with this gearbox.

Well As if I wasn't confused enough. I have read several places that people are using the bronco/f150 arms? If that's not the case which arm do I need? Check this link out I hope it works www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1059677-1979-f-350-king-pin-d-60-crossover-2.html
So here it is. I thank everybody from this site for trying to help me out. It's frustrating to say the least
So this is after I centered the box and slid the pitman arm on as close as I can to being centered with the truck. The 4 slots in the splines will not allow any different
Yes I know I have clearance issues I'm not planing on using this pitman arm
Again with clearance issues I will notch this crossmember as soon as I have the proper pitman arm
I have had the exact same problem you have right now and had to get a F-150 4x4 pitman arm. It was the same size, same drop but the indexing splines were 45° different than the 78-79. I think I ended up with an FA300 for a p/n from skyjacker.
Love the Cummins pics - I'm slightly jealous.
So here is your problem in the photo. You need the style on the right. I used an FA300 (skyjacker) about a 3-4" drop on both the 78-79 steering conversion & the 2wd box steering conversion. The application is 66-77 bronco / 76-79 F 150 4x4.
