360 redline

Hey all, Ive had my truck for 2 months now and recently installed a tachometer. ITs got a 360, bone stock minus dual exhaust. (Still has manifolds)
When I keep it in drive and step on it, it kicks down and gets up to 4000rpm relatively easily. How high should I rev it, and how high will it rev? when does it make peak HP and Torque?

Jared

I shift around 3200 RPM on my 2WD 70. I've taken my 4WD 73 up to 4,200 and it's sounds like it is screaming for mercy.

I've only ever driven truck FE's, and they all have a self-imposed valve float limiter at around 5800.

I honestly don't know peak HP and torque rims, but with the compression as low as it is, they have to peak under 4,000 rpm.

Holy crap 5800 hahaha. I too mine up to 4700 once and that seemed pretty excessive

when i take my truck to the drags i will run the 352 to 5500 with out any problems back to back, and have taken it to 6000 but it slowed down lol, FEs will spin, they will run out of air before the bottom end comes apart.. just make sure you have enough oil in it!!

I had my low range quit on my 91 with a 302 I had the cruise control hold it at ~5000 for an hour and a half the input seal on the tcase melted and was blue when I pulled it apart

Funny thing I was "always" nice to my FEs

...It'd be burned off by the immense fireball which emanates from the block after being ventilated by thrown rod.

Ran into a guy at the sand dunes who got airborn and revved his 428 to 8100 at which point a rod or two left the block. Barry robotnik has seen stock 428s hit 8300 rpm & that's a 3.98" stroke not a 3.5" like the 360. On a more serious note I think somewhere around 6000 would be my max.
