tires like this \ /
I did a search on it, but found topics where their tires were like this.../ \ and they were all the ttb axel, or newer trucks.
I have d44 straight axel up front,(78' f150) and ever since i changed my ball joinst (upper and lower , both sides) my tires have been like this. Thats a few months ago,,,,,im just now ready to deal with it.
It looks ridiculous especially when i have my wheels turned one way.
So how would i go about dealing with this??
I think I heard somewhere about some discs or something You can put in by the b-joint to level it out.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
If your year truck has pressed in ball joints on a Dana 44 it does not take spacers like the TTB. TTB have funky little adjusters / bushings / spacers on the top ball joint that you can get in various degrees.
For a straight axle with radius arms, mostly what you have to do is adjust your tie rods for toe in/toe out. Jack it up both sides, use a 3-4 foot level on the inside of the tire and adjust each side until they read level up and down. You can use a tape meaure and stick too to measure between the top and bottom of each tire. Tape measure takes some patience and probably is a two person job to be accurate.
If it is still off and looks like a V you can get replacement radius arm bushings (the ones that attach on the axle side).
This should be good enough for most driving.
If you want to get fancy and use levels on both sides and measure spacing from front to back of each wheel you can go that route too. I think Four Wheeler had an older article on this.
I usually do the tierods and leave it at that.
Rebo - I will do what you suggested, Yes theyre pressedin b-joints d44, with radius arms. And I also did rthe balljoints myself. I will do the toe in-toe out after I finish up building my flatbed, hopefully tonite or tomorow.
Im not to keen on taking my truck to shops as the ********* at midas when i took my truck there to get it checked out (the day before i did my balljoints and tie-rod/draglink) he told me my truck should be takin off the road, and he wanted to call the tow truck company and get it towed away. Because the worn ball joints and tie rod ends. Does stuff not wear out in time??
I was not impressed to say rthe least. So i told him ok, I am leaving, and I will take care of it myself.
Thanks again guys
