Hey all, I am new to here. I am interested in and old ford and I cam across this one. I was hoping someone could tell me what a fair price would be.
Its a 1976 F150 4x4. It has the 390 with a 4 speed. He says it runs but the body is a little rough. Thanks in advance.
someone can correct me if im wrong, but I believe in 76 4x4's only came equipped with 360s, not 390s. Unless he has had one swapped in of course. Paint looks rough, but its kinda hard to tell from the pictures. Body looks pretty straight though. Who knows how the underside is though. Any additional info on the truck? Where im from, if it ran good and didnt need any serious immediate work, it could probably fetch 3000-4000$. What is his asking price?
I wouldn't go over 2000 with how rough it looks. I'm not saying its a bad truck or that 3000 would be an outrageous price if he was asking for that, but I'd be willing to bet that PAs market is similar to yours in VA and if you wait a little, you can do better.
I waited about a year while searching and scored one from a recently laid off guy for 3k, needed no work, interior was restored, exterior was fair to good shape, and only needed some vacuum lines and a rear main seal to be mechanically sound.
If that dude wants 1k, jump on it. If he wants 2k, think on it. If he wants more, wait it out!
Thanks Guys for all of your replies, I really appreciate it. The guy just said make offer, so I am going to find out what his number is. I hope it doesn't come with all the crap in the back, but if so its not the end of the world. I was thinking it would be a 1000-2000 dollar truck, or at least I wouldn't pay more for it then that. I am not sure if it has General Grabber tires but I will find out. Why would that be interesting? And I am sure this is a really dumb question but can someone explain the difference between a 360 and a 390? Thanks so much.
Since he will not price it, that means he is trying to get as much a some one (mainly you) will pay for it. That is normal in the world, sale for as much as you can, buy as cheap as you can.
Tell him since he will not price it, and you have to get the ball rolling somehow. And no offence meant, 1st offer is $500 cash and have a stack of 20's and show him. He will huff and puff and come back with a high number like 3000, you come back with 800, just peel off six 50 dollar bills, and add to the stack of 20's.
Then he might say 2500 you say 1000. He says 2100 you say 1300, him 2000, you 1600. Getting closer... Stand your ground, look over the insp list you made during the look over and test drive.
And say 1800 and that is it. He will wine like a chebby owner that you just towed out a 1/2 deep mud hole because his low profile mud tires that his dad bought anyway suck, and say ok deal.
Difference in 360 and 390 is horsepower and torque. 360 is a dog 390 is a monster. Only way to tell the difference, is to ck the stroke?? I think anyway?
