I broke this today. Passenger side wheel well, behind battery. I broke the vacuum nub off.

Thats the low vacuum warning switch. It puts the brake light on when you have low vacuum (like the vac pump stopped working).

For now you can just plug the tube and ignore the light until you can get a replacement.

mine has been capped off for close to 15 years now after it broke.
i can tell when the vacuum pump is getting tired by the trans not shifting properly.

^^^^ The OP's tranny will shift just fine with an inop vacuum pump

. (Stiff brake pedal is the usual giveaway.)
