Engine cuts out for a split second when releasing throttle
Hi all,
This truck isn't mine but it's an 05 F250 automatic. We just did oil cooler, STC, standpipes, dummy plugs, EGR delete, and cleaned the turbo. Truck starts perfectly and runs great 99% of the time. But after a high load throttle situation right when you let off the throttle the engine sounds and feels like it cuts out for a split second, then it comes back and everything is fine. It does it with stock tunes but it is more noticeable with his SCT tunes loaded. There are no codes being set. The weird thing is if your drive it relatively easily it never does it, and it never does it while it is actually under high load, at WOT it pulls like crazy until you let off a bit and then it happens.. It also doesn't do it every time but it is fairly often. It has edge insight with fuel pressure monitoring added, ICP doesn't drop out and neither does fuel pressure. Not sure what other PIDs would help identify it.
You mean you are no longer hearing engine clatter for a split second, but the rpms do not fluctuate right? I read something about it before. My truck does it, hasn't given me an issue in the 2 years i've had it. You'll need to explain some more, what's cutting out, anything you notice etc.
The only thing I can come up with, with out gauge values is
1. Maf needs cleaned ( only use maf cleaner)
2. Ebp and tube
3. Clogged Map nipple
When was the last air filter change?
When was the last fuel filter and water separator changed?
And while your in there cleaning things up get the IAT2 sensor this one should have been#1 do one at a time and test drive , by unhooking them you will set aDTC just erase.

Any thought what could cause it to do that?
Mine's been doing it for years and it's never been a problem.
It actually seems to have stopped doing this for the time being. We left the batteries unhooked all night and it hasn't done it sense. It has a different problem though and I will probably create a new post about it. Basically it runs great when it is in gear and driving but when it is in park or neutral and you try to rev it up it shakes and sounds like it is missing, even just putting it in high idle you can tell it's not running right. Any thoughts on that? Or even what PID I should get info from to help diag?
I cleaned the EBPS and tube, map sensor and nipple, MAF, and IAT2. Everything looked fine except for IAT2 which was really gummed up. Didn't make a difference, truck runs great when your driving it but misses when revving in park or neutral. Here is video showing a bunch of PIDs on the edge insight, you can hear when it was in park it sounds pretty bad but once I start driving it sounds great. Please have a look at the video and see if you see anything out of ordinary in the PIDs.
When you had the Turbo out for cleaning , how did the vanes and plate look , any pitting ? Rusty did you go back together correctly any slop in the wheel?
Tap on the EBP Sensor with the Engine running , if you see the values bounce around the ebp is faulty, don't spray anything in the sensor it self just make sure the little hole is clear and the tube is not restricted , same goes with the MAP .it sounds more like back pressure than a turbo fart, how did the wheel and vanes look?
You shouldn't be able to see 14psi of exhaust back pressure during a rev in neutral (1 to MAYBE 3 is all...). I'd clean up the sensor as indicated and use the opportunity to clean the EBP sampling tube while you're at it. A bottle brush and some carb cleaner works great. Some just opt to replace the sensor. I think that's a little rash, but if you want to, it's available at FORD OEM 6.0L V8 EBP Sensor for Models After 11/30/04 4C3Z-9J460-A for your 2005.
When I go down a big hill, the fuel is cut to the injectors and it's just coasting. No clatter, just quiet tire hum.... wonder if this is what's happening after a heavy throttle?
Thanks for all of the feedback! I pulled the EBPS last weekend because I thought the same thing, I can't get that much back pressure in my 6.0 in park, and his goes higher at WOT also, tube is clear and so was the sensor so maybe it is just bad. I will probably swap him mine for a day or so and see if it helps!
