Help!!! Transmission dipstick replacement
Hi,
Looking for some help with finding a replacement transmission dipstick for my van.
Ford no longer have the part. my local salvage yards don't seem to have any 93 ford e150 club wagons. Having difficulty locating any club wagon with the same set up.I found a 94 e150 van with the same transmission but the problem is it is way too long!
Does anyone know which other vans may have the same part?
Failing that does anyone know what the actual length the dipstick should be? If I can find the length I may be able to adapt the one I got until I find the right part.
Any help would be appreciated as I can't use the van until I have the transmission fluid correct. I know it is probably low because I replaced the Pan & Filter on it.
Thanks in advance,
Nikki
Member NumberDummy probably has the Ford part number from which you do a national search for remaining stock that's never been sold, siting on someone's shelf. Contact him, he'll have that info.
While this doesn't help immediately but a dipstick too long can be used when trimmed down to a length that will fit into the trans pan and close tightly at the top. Using almost any other dipstick you could engrave or otherwise mark to show proper level or full and "add a quart".
Hope this is even a bit helpful NIkki!
Ford parts has it as Part Number: 7A020 for my vin.
I have one that I could trim if I can find the correct length. Spent all day yesterday searching the web and calling around without much success. Never imagined finding a dipstick would be such a problem. looks like my weekend trip will be getting cancelled.
Is there a website for doing a national search?
Thanks for the info

The uncaring dealership parts cluck only gave you the basic part number for the dipstick. Without a prefix & suffix, it's worthless, because...
7A020 is the basic Ford part number for every trans dipstick since 1950!
Last MSRP: $11.20 / Dealer net cost: $6.72.
Applications: 1993/95 E150 4.9L & 5.8L E4OD
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Be aware that 1993 E150 with 4.9L also came with the C6.
Look on the Certification Label for the TRANS code, post what it is.
NOTE: Where in CA do you live?
Here is a thread about someone needing a dipstick..
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...vet-union.html
"Incorrect dipstick for a 1992, this is E9UZ-7A020-B = 1989 E150/350 351W/E4OD & 1990/91 E250/350 351W/E4OD
F3UZ-7A020-B (replaced F2UZ-7A020-C) .. Dipstick - 1992/94 E150 5.8L/E4OD / 1992/96 E250/350 5.8L/7.3L E4OD / Obsolete
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any of these part numbers.
"Be sure and mention what motor and that you got one for a 1994 and it was too long.
What motor do you have?
Do you still have the 1994 dipstick and does it have a part number on it?

OP has a 1993 E150 4.9L E4OD, I asked to verify the trans type, as the C6 was also available.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
If she still has the one for the 1994 that is too long,,, if it will fit through the filler tube but is just too long,,, She might be able pull the filler tube out then insert the dipstick all the way in the tube then clip it off and mark the fill line on the dipstick?
Actual full parts # is F6UZ-7A020-AA (got this from ford parts)
NumberDummy you are correct they are obsolete!

I wasn't aware they came with C6 thanks for that, maybe the one I got from the salvage yard yesterday was C6. there was no trans or engine to check and no info on door.
Mine is a 1993 E150 4.9L E4OD (trans code E) have already replaced filter, pan etc
I am in Vallejo. Tried pick'n'pull fairfield yesterday will try richmond tomorrow or Saturday.
OP?
Stuart1, I will try this as a last resort (don't know how to do that
).annaleigh thanks! still have the one from yesterday that i could probably adjust if i find the actual length. no parts place has been able to tell me the length, not even ford that.
I thought this would be the easy part, silly me.
It means Original Poster, or, Original Post.
It simply refers to the person who started the thread, or sometimes, the original question or statement, or both.
Hope that helps.
Now...back to your regularly scheduled programming...
Ford replaced it with F6UZ-7A020-AA but...
Ford also replaced the original 1993 dipstick tube F3UZ-7A228-B with 1994/96 F4UZ-7A228-A dipstick tube.

So, you cannot use F6UZ-7A020-AA dipstick with your original 1993 dipstick tube.
IMO, you have 3 choices. Find a 1992 E150 4.9L/E4OD, use the dipstick and tube (different than 1993).
Find a like 1993 use just the dipstick, or find a 1994/96, use its dipstick and tube.
And, both F6UZ-7A020-AA & F4UZ-7A228-A are obsolete .. no Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
SO If you could find a old private owned transmission shop somewhere near you,, ( I say old private because they would be more likely to have parts laying around ) what if you pulled your filler tube out and took it along with the 1984 too long dipstick to a transmission shop. If they have an AOD or AODE transmission tube and dipstick laying around then maybe you could get the measurement you need.
Providing the dipstick you have will fit all the way down in "your filler tube".
All you would need is the measurement of how far it sticks out the end of the tube and where the fill/add marks are..
