I added that feature to our prius when we had it. (and auto headlights)
man, that was a lifetime ago..

my 12 doesn't turn on the headlights when the wipers come on

Sam, I don't know if it is a trim thing, a year thing, or I just got lucky. Within a few seconds of turning on my wipers, the headlights come on and stay on until a few seconds after I turn them off. The daytime operation of the headlights due to using wipers, does NOT affect how my dash is lit though. The dash lights are set based on the sensor, rather than just because the heads are on for whatever reason.

If you had a dually you can see the marker light on the fender using the spot mirror.
As far as the lights coming on with the wipers I believe that feature should be mandatory for every vehicle on the road.

I assumed it became part of the programming with the 2013+ models, but didn't know if it was law, or Ford being proactive.

This is how I tell as well.

My 2012 XLT turns the headlights on with the wipers.

My '14 lights come on with the wipers. I only used auto on my old truck. My '99 didn't have it though. I just peek in the mirror also and see if the fender lights are on.

Flip the high beams on and see if the high beam indicator light comes on.

Tried the headlight/wiper thing on my 2015 today.

If the headlight switch is in the OFF position.... they DO NOT come one when the wipers are turned on.

If the headlight switch is in the AUTO position, they DO come on when the wipers are turned on.

Then turn off a few seconds after the wipers are turned off.

I generally leave mine in the OFF position.

I just wish I could figure out how to keep the parking lights from coming on every time I open the dang door!

I guess that explains why my lights have never come on with the wipers................I never use auto lights. I turn my headlights off if I'm behind a low car and I can see it shining in their mirror and eyes at lights. I also turn them off and just leave the park lights on pulling into friends driveways. Autolamps annoy me.

You can get it programmed to dark car mode, but then the dome light won't work either. I like the marker lights coming on, gives a little ambient light. My 2004 F150 I hated, as the headlights would come on anytime you opened a door. Ignorant in campgrounds but couldn't stop it.
