351 swap out for 390?

Hey all, new guy here with my first thread. Hopefully, I dug far enough back through the swap forum (and didn't find my specific question) that it's cool to start my own.

Truck A: 1977 F-250, 4WD, 351M engine, 4-speed manual truck trans
Truck B: 1963 F-100, 2WD, 390 engine, C6 auto trans (390 is out of a 1970 2WD)

What I want to do: Put the 390 into the 1977, using the 4-speed manual trans.

Is it as simple as getting a clutch/flywheel/bellhousing for the 390 and making the swap? or no?

Please and thanks

what tranny?

I suspect it is that simple, BUT - you're probably going to need motor mount towers.

The FE (390) motor mounts are basically biscuits on the side of the engine, I have no idea what the 351M mounts look like.

the 351 is currently backed by a standard ford 4-speed manual (IDK the actual model number or whatever) and the 390 has a C6 auto. I want to keep the 390 and the 4-speed.

You'll need the flywheel for the 390, a pressure plate that will work with that flywheel and a clutch disk that will work with that pressure plate and the trans input shaft. If you're lucky a 390 clutch disk and pressure plate will work with your trans input shaft, but it's not necessarily a guarantee.

Then you'll need the bellhousing for the 390 and hope that the trans will bolt up to it and the input shaft will be the right length.

You'll need a pilot bearing that will fit in the 390 flywheel and on the trans input shaft.

And you'll probably need a manual starter for the 390.

All of this might just fall together, or it might be the start of a nightmare. Sorry, but I have no idea which.

Bell housing bolt patterns are different.

The crank may not be bored to accept a pilot bearing.

This project gives me the *******.

That's why he needs the bellhousing for the 390.

Possible I suppose, but I wouldn't think it was too risky. Manual transmissions were awfully common in '63, so I'd guess all the cranks would work with a manual trans

It's not a no-brainer, but I wouldn't be too scared of it.
